- Depression?
- Stress?
- Attention problems?
- Stubborn body fat?

What do these things have in common? Quite possibly, it's the lack of a very simple ingredient in your diet: omega-3 fatty acids, available in fish oils and/or flax seed oils.

Only 1-4 Tb of flax seed oil per day, for example, can quite possibly reduce the effect of stress (see the article on stress)... start your body shedding fat... reduce depression and/or mood swings...

These simple, healthy spoonfuls can be put on oatmeal, in a fruit or protein shake, drizzled on salad, and/or added to recipes!

Does this seem like something too good to be true? It IS too good - but it IS true!

See the mini-article on Omega-3 fatty acids on the front page of the website Physical Mind, for the basic ideas behind this amazing (and easy) solution to many of our health problems of today!

QUICK TIP:

Did you know that a simple walk done at a brisk pace, can:

...burn fat

...clear your head and reduce stress

...brighten your spirits

...increase the sense of well-being in your body

...enhance every cell and organ's functioning

It's true! Try it and see!

This can be done anywhere, at any time ... before work, at your lunch hour, at dusk, with family, with co-workers, alone listening to music, all of the above!

ANXIETY?
MORE STRESS?

There's a school of food-thought which says to have "grounding foods" when you have anxious or racing thoughts:

GROUNDING FOODS:
Whole foods, cooked vegetables, brown rice: things that come from directly the earth/ground as a 'root', with deep flavors: potatoes, radishes, onions, turnips, peanuts, carrots, beets, garlic

AVOID 'excitable' foods:
sugars, caffeine, raw vegetables, stimulants, fruit juices, and highly processed food. These act as numbing foods after the initial rush - and may keep your anxious thoughts rushing, and then depress you afterwards!

Is this "grounding-foods" theory correct? I don't know! Test it for yourself. Have a sweet potato with butter and cinnamon next time you feel anxious. See what happens ... and write me!

Definitely remember that sugar, junk food, and caffeine don't 'help' anxious moods!

STRESS
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction...

Imagine: you are under stress from a project or a situation. You need all your energy, all your thoughts, all your perfect functioning. BUT, the mere length of that stress, is actually eating away at your brain and body -- so that you are not only sub-optimally functioning on the project, but you are actually destroying yourself in the process.

Extreme stress releases cortisol, one of the hormones released by the adrenal glands, which are long known to be our "fight-or-flight" mechanisms. However, cortisol (and other adrenal hormones) was created for our cave-dwelling ancestors to help him run away from a bear! Cortisol regulates of blood pressure and cardiovascular function, as well as regulation of the body's use of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. The body tries to regulate the biochemicals which are now rushing around; not only are you dealing with the stressor itself, but now you have the body completely unbalanced by its own self!

What can we do? (Glad you asked).

"HELP! Why aren't I getting results from my exercise?"

Many people ask me, "If I am exercising regularly, why aren't I getting the results that I want?"

It's a simple request: 'exercise = instantaneous fitness'.

I'd buy that for a dollar ;)

However, bribes aside, the prescription for fitness isn't based on simple calories burned. There's a mistaken impression that this is the true fact, but there so much more biochemistry which goes into your fitness than moving limbs. If you are one of the millions of people wanting to know how to get better results, faster, stick with me for this article and you'll be all the healthier (and better-lookin') for it later.

RECIPES ANYONE CAN DO:
Corn-oat-flax tortillas . . .  a very healthy carb

We are all familiar with both the corn tortillas and the flour tortillas, but the original ones were of the native corn only, and except in Northern Mexico, corn tortillas remain the norm and the staple. I have modified the traditional corn tortilla recipe for nutritional purposes.

Tortillas provide a good base for wrapped food: vegetables, cheeses, & meat taste very good when nestled in a grain product, and, contrary to the low-carb craze, the body is meant to have 'some' carbs. A tortilla reduces the amount of carbs if a bread is desired, while this recipe provides some grain for good digestion.

IF I'M SO SMART [at my job], WHY DO I FEEL SO DUMB AT MY FITNESS?
How to become brilliant... and solve those difficulties which have been nagging you

In general, most people are embarrassed to go to a doctor, to look at their own aches and pains, and  especially, to consult with a wellness coach such as myself.

We are a delightful society of wanting to solve problems. We really can solve so many problems if we have the knowledge and capabilities. We are smart, media-informed, we have jobs which make us think . . . so what happens about our heath?

BOOKS TO ROCK YOUR WORLD

Everyone has their favorite books . . . and sometimes one's books are based on a sentimental time in one's life, a favorite passion, or simply a good story. This list is none of those. (kidding).

This list takes books of different wellness subjects, and offers them non-stressfully in case you are interested in good reads 'for your health'.

Some of the health books have dietary recommendations, but mostly they are highly educational and will help you understand your body, your time, and your stress in a whole different light. I highly recommend each book.
