OVERVIEW:

The traditional personal trainer concept may work well for one hour in the gym, but what about the other 23 hours of the day? YOU are coached to be your OWN ‘TRAINER’, to re-form and re-establish your ideas about fitness, nutrition, and wellness.

Only when the mind and spirit are changed, can the rest of the body follow.

Changing the body requires changing the mind.

A new approach is required. You demand a personalized program which deals with your unique situation and barriers to success, while helping you make changes that last. Coaching is the solution. The coach can helps you reach the wellness goals that you are struggling to reach alone. The coach equips you to take responsibility of your life like never before.

One-on-one coaching empowers you to:          

  • Develop a life vision which encompasses all aspects of physical and emotional well-being: physique goals, energy goals, stress-reduction goals.

  • Make long-lasting changes and reach a higher level of fitness, wellness, time-management, and stress-management

  • Finds strategies to deal with your unique challenges

  • Asks you to do more than you may have done on your own

  • Helps you focus better in order to produce results more quickly

  • Make sense of the confusing media hype about nutrition and/or exercise

  • Provides you with the understanding, comprehension, support, and structure to accomplish more than before coaching began

Wellness/Lifestyle Coaching can provide the support and guidance needed to make physical, nutritional, time management changes that can create a healthier and happier life.

PROCEDURE:

Here’s how it works: you provide background health information through a comprehensive questionnaire during their first coaching session so that Lauren is well-informed on the key issues, including medical limitations.

You learn how to seek a vision for your life to take, set realistic concrete goals toward that vision,  and systematically make progress towards the goals, which work for your entire life!

You and Lauren, together, then commit to a coaching program for making changes towards the vision. There are several coaching programs to choose from, ranging from a one-time 2-1/2-hour seminar to target lifestyle trouble spots, to three-month program whereby you would be coached weekly by phone.

This list is in no way exhaustive. Most clients come with their own needs and wants. Each client is different from another, and sometimes the goals modify over the coaching timeline.

In the 30-40 minute weekly telephone coaching sessions, you and Lauren review the progress from the last week’s goals, learn something new or develop a solution to overcome an obstacle, and then agree on a set of goals for the following week. After a few weeks of coaching sessions, you begin to notice improvements in how you feel and look, and your motivation to continue efforts to change increases. Obstacles are discussed with the coach, and solutions are integrated into behaviors.

By the end of three months, clients typically reach more than 70% of their established big goals and are energized and confident to commit to changing new areas.
 

PROGRAMS AVAILABLE:

Members will be able to choose from several programs offered to Merritt Athletic Club members:

SmartFitness: a one-time-only in-person 2-1/2-hour seminar which reviews your health history, eating, exercise, and stress management habits to overview what changes would be beneficial. This program is more on a consultation basis, directive in approach. It is a 'jumpstart 'program to learn more in-depth about your own lifestyle needs and how to create your own health. This program is a stand-alone, and is not any prerequisite for any other program.        

Lifestyle Coaching: starting with a three-month commitment, the your health history, current eating, exercise, and/or stress management actions are investigated. Through goal-setting and weekly telephone coaching, your are encouraged, guided, and uplifted to meet, exceed, and evolve the goals. These telephone sessions can be held via cell phone, work, or home phone, depending on the agreed-upon schedule of coach and client. Very convenient way of being guided on your goals!

MEET THE COACH:

Merritt Athletic Club’s lifestyle coach is Lauren Muney of Physical Mind. Lauren is a certified physical fitness trainer and health coach; both her certifications were awarded at the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas, one of the most prestigious fitness-research facilities in the United States. She is currently enrolled in Wellcoaches coach-training program, and maintains a private lifestyle-coaching practice, focusing on the holistic (“whole-body”) aspects of fitness and wellness. Lauren believes that if you locate the source of the difficulty (not just the symptoms), you can solve the problems. She is a member of the DC Coaching Federation, and has workshopped through Coachville, a highly-respected coach training program. Lauren is also Merritt Athletic Club’s corporate coaching trainer/educator. She is a native Marylander, although blessed with travel and work throughout the United States.
