How valuable are your employees?

Better yet, how valuable is your business?

If the employees are in poor health or stress, you could be losing money through higher insurance claims, absenteeism, and lower productivity.

Conversely, employees with quality work/life balance, good communications with other company personnel, an opportunity to air personal and work issues, are more productive -- and help the company succeed.

Do you know the latest psychological discoveries which spur employees or managers to greatness?

Coaching improves business:

Every dollar invested on worksite wellness or employee satisfaction is returned to the corporation through:

  • improved business due to less mental blocks from stress

  • increased work output due to mentally and physically healthy staff
  • less absenteeism due to illness or stress-related issues
  • reduced depression due to better problem-solving abilities
  • improved health and personal morale
  • Improved corporate [workplace] morale
  • lower yearly medical costs for insurance claims
  • decreased insurance premiumsdue to well-workplace effort

This is a measured return on investment (ROI). here are several reports regarding ROI and engaged workplaces:

Healthy workplace means healthy business

With most of an employee's waking hours taking place in the workplace, the employer who works towards healthy employees will actually be working towards a healthy [profitable] business.

"... The reality is that employee health is important whether it's work-related or not.

"It's important for employers to realize that people are not automatons," urges Andrea Fore, M.D., medical director for Whole Health's clinic at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Washington, D.C.

The leading cause of employee death and disability in the United States is
heart disease.
25% of employees have high blood pressure and are not physically active during leisure time... possible causes:
  • stress
  • genetic pre-disposition
  • exhaustion from workdays
28% of employees smoke...
possible causes:
  • inability to quit
  • lack of adequate support to quit
52% of employees have blood cholesterol of 200mg/dL or higher ... possible causes:
  • stress,
  • inactivity at work
  • inactivity at home
  • lack of adequate support
  • lack of adequate health education

Employers spend money to promote company-wide one-day health fairs, but if an employee has a health or motivation issue and no action is taken, the company actually loses money.

However, this trend can be reversed with Coaching : coaching provides each individual with an opportunity to address the problems in his or her own life, wither through individual or group coaching. Stress, physical and social problems can be reduced or eliminated altogether - thus improving the lives of the people and the company.

BUSINESS PRODUCTIVITY SOLUTIONS:

A coach notices everything, listens to everything. There are some life-details that a coach hears in frequency: sometimes workplace-conditions need upgrading. While employees have a responsibility to follow-up on their own health, employers have a responsibility to create a healthy atmosphere which will facilitate business productivity = better profit.

This productive work atmosphere may include:

  • access to sunny windows
  • workplace fitness locations
  • allowed break-times for employees to refresh and regroup for better work after the break
  • improved methods for conducting meetings
  • in-house mentoring or coaching
  • mediation for workplace problems
  • lunchtime seminars on many topics
  • healthy snacks in vending machines or cafeterias
  • flexible work schedules (also called "Results Oriented Workplace")
  • decreasing (or spreading) workload
  • improvements to decor which decreases stress
  • improved workstations
  • invitations to employees for feedback to management
  • telecommuting opportunities, and
  • other proven productivity methods.

Solve the source of the problem

The solution is to work from a "systems dynamics" method: the relationships among a system's parts, rather than the parts themselves. Productivity is based on relationships:

  • the relationship between the staff members to one another (communication),
  • the staff to their workload,
  • the staff to their resources,
  • and the staff to their own lives.

If one aspect becomes ill, the rest will downfall as well. Coaching can assist in productivity on a very high level.

Coaching – an individualized approach

Coaching assists employees and management in making difficult behavior  and workplace changes to improve the physical and emotional health of the employees, and the health of the relationships inside the company.

"Behavior change is more complex than just telling someone to behave differently or handing them a pamphlet." Dr. Kristin Vickers, PhD, on why lifestyle coaching works.

Wellness improvements improve productivity:
productivity improves profits.

Lauren can provide coaching in several forms including:

Success Strategies and goal-setting

  • indentify values
  • identify barriers
  • establish goals, and
  • identify and implement a plan that will promote lasting behavior improvements over time.

Any plan is adjusted as needed to best address the changing needs of the the employee and to encourage better self-management.

Additionally, Lauren can work with a company to create systems-oriented changes to increase the health and reduce the stress of employees. Systems-oriented changes means that Lauren assists management in identifying problems and making solutions -- thus progressing the business far beyond what was originally in place.

Outstanding improvements for your core:
your staff

Lauren Muney's individual, seminars, or group coaching can emphasize:

  • Positive behaviors for lifestyle changes in diet, nutrition and exercise
  • Positive changes in employee business/work -life which will increase his/her health, wellbeing, and positively affect business.
  • Elimination of unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, poor dietary choices, stress mismanagement, "awareness"/"mindfulness"
  • Positive changes in management's working with employees, including implementation of an in-house mentor/coaching programs
  • Adherence to physician instructions and prescription orders
  • Understanding the disease process from a systemic ("one part influences the whole system") standpoint
  • Understanding the treatment process from a systemic ("one part influences the whole system")  standpoint

The result:
productive employee / successful business

The result is more empowered, confident, healthy energetic employee (and team) who is ready to tackle the more difficult behavioral changes and reach their health and lifestyle goals, thus becoming more productive for the business and for his/her own self.

The return on investment  (ROI) is high when employees are given opportunities for health, stress-reduction, overcoming obstacles, and given new opportunities:

Coaching empowers the EMPLOYEE to:

  • Develop a fitness and health vision which encompasses all aspects of physical and emotional well-being: physique goals, energy goals, stress-reduction goals.

  • Make long-lasting changes and reach a higher level of fitness, health and wellness

  • Finds strategies to deal with employees' unique challenges

  • Asks the employee to do more than he/she may have done on his/her own

  • Helps the employee focus better in order to produce results more quickly

  • Make sense of the confusing media hype about nutrition and/or exercise

  • Provides the employee with the comprehension, support, and structure to accomplish more than before coaching began

Coaching empowers MANAGEMENT to:

  • Understand the correlation between employee stress, workload, health options, and their impact on business productivity

  • Focus on solutions instead of obstacles

  • Make long-lasting changes in company policies for employee health, productivity, and retention

  • Look beyond "the TRADITIONAL bottom line" to understand the systems dynamic: the relationships among a system's parts. When the employees are healthy, they can produce better for the business.

  • Create options for increasing employee health through programs, outsourced or in-house
